Farmers
Most of the egyptians were farmers. Between July and November the farmers helped with pyramids and Royal palaces because their land was flooded by the great Nile.
Farmers mostly grew wheat and barley for bread and beer. They also grew many other healthy items such as grapes, flax, dates, figs, cucumbers, melons, onions, peas, leeks and lettuces. Many also had livestock such as cattle, goats, sheep, ducks and geese. |
Bartering and buying goods
Instead of using money like we do here in modern times ancient egyptians used to barter things they wanted and needed. For example egyptians might trade a goat in exchange for slaves to work on their farm. Sometimes people would come sailing down the nile to barter their property with the egyptians. Some of these items included: leopard skin, elephant tusks, ostrich feathers and slaves.
